About GI
Geographical indication or simply GI is the highest standard of authenticity when it comes to Kashmiri Pashmina. The Craft Development Institute (CDI) - a government-established institute that supports Kashmiri handicrafts - has developed a label for the identification of genuine handspun and handwoven Kashmiri Pashmina. This label is non-imitable and non-removable containing a numerical code. 
For passing the test of GI tagging, a Pashmina should have the following three characteristics:
1. Pashm wool used for making the product should be less than 16 microns
2. Spinning of the wool should be done by hand (on the Yinder)
3. Weaving of the product should be done on traditional wooden handloom.
