We celebrate the artistry of Kashmiri artisans with this handmade Kashmiri Namda that artisans take months to complete. The Namda has been handcrafted out of felted wool that is essential for lending Namda its signature softness and thickness. Skillful embroidery artisans later create bright and vivid patterns of embroidery, here, the tree of life with colourful birds chirping songs of joy and a new beginning. Each inch of this Namda reflects the patience and craftsmanship of the artisans, making it a statement piece, ideal to be used as a rug or wall decor.

Material:
Kashmiri Namda is crafted using felted wool, making it soft, dense and naturally insulating. Wool is compressed and bonded together through a process of traditional felting creating a beautiful and durable surface.

Embroidery:
Kashmiri Namdas host traditional Aari embroidery, the thick and bright embroidery technique, done using a specialized hook (called Aari). The intricate embroidery is done with precision and attention to detail, adding a vibrant touch and depth to the Namda.

How is Namda made
Unlike carpets, Namdas are not woven. These are created through a meticulous process called felting.
1. Cleaning: Wool is cleaned of impurities
2. Layering: The wool is spread evenly over a jute mat in distinct layers. A specialized soap is sprinkled over the layers, which prepares it for the fusing process.
3. The mat is tightly rolled and secured with ropes to create a cylindrical shape
4. The roll is subjected to high pressure by being rolled back and forth, and trampled by feet
5. After attaining the desired consistency, the rug washed to remove soap, allowed to dry, followed by adding colour

This labour intensive process gives Namda its distinctive softness and warmth
