About Kashmiri Walnut Wood
Kashmir is the only region in India where walnut trees grow at the altitude required for dense, close-grained timber. The wood is naturally rich brown, takes fine detail without splitting, and darkens gracefully with age.
Craftsmanship
Carved entirely by hand. The artisan removes material in stages with chisels of decreasing width, deepest cuts first and fine detail last. Only a few carvers in the Valley execute relief at this depth.
